It is applicable to a wider range of soils. The test is based on the relationship between moisture content and the penetration of the cone into the soil sample. The moisture content at a given depth of penetration of the cone is taken as the liquid limit.

Soil Cone Penetrometer for Liquid Limit is complete with an automatic controller, which automatically releases the plunger by a magnetic device, complete with micrometer vertical adjustment and adjustable electronic timer of the fall time. The penetrometer is equipped with a digital timer, which can be set to the standard 5 second free-fall time or to some other setting for customized tests. When engaged the timer will allow the needle to free fall into the sample for the specific time interval and then lock the needle from advancing while providing a direct reading of the test results.
